This Citrus and Floral Infused Tea combines zesty citrus with fragrant floral notes for a refreshing, customisable drink.
This Citrus and Floral Infused Tea is a refreshing, aromatic blend that combines the bright zestiness of citrus with delicate floral notes. Warming and cosy you can easily customise the ingredients to suit your preferences and it's oh so pretty.
Ingredients:
- 1-2 tsp loose leaf tea or tea-bag (green tea, white tea or herbal tea like chamomile or rooibos work well)
- 1 orange (or 1 lemon or a mix of both), thinly sliced or juiced
- 1-2 tbsp dried edible flowers (such as chamomile, jasmine, lavender or rose petals)
- 1-2 slices of fresh ginger (optional for an extra kick)
- Honey (to taste)
- Hot water
Instructions:
1. Prepare Your Tea Base
- In a teapot, saucepan or heatproof jug, add 1-2 teaspoons of your chosen tea leaves.
- A tea-bag is also fine.
2. Add the Citrus and Ginger
- Slice your orange or lemon (or both!) thinly and add a few slices into the teapot with the tea leaves.
- If using ginger, add 1-2 thin slices of fresh ginger to infuse the tea with a gentle, warming spice.
3. Infuse with Flowers
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of dried edible flowers to the mix. Chamomile, jasmine, lavender or rose petals all complement citrus beautifully. I've used a ready mix from the lovely Polly's Petals.
- Stir everything gently to combine.
4. Pour Hot Water
- Pour the hot water over the tea, flowers and citrus slices. Cover and let the tea steep for about 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.
5. Sweeten
- Taste your tea. If you prefer a touch of sweetness add a drizzle of honey to taste.
6. Serve & Enjoy
- Sieve the tea into cups and serve immediately. You can enjoy it hot or chill it for an iced tea version on a warm day (my favourite way).
- If desired, garnish with a few fresh citrus slices, additional edible flowers or even a sprig of mint for extra freshness.
Alternatives:
- Citrus Combinations: Try mixing different citrus fruits, such as grapefruit, lemon, or lime to find your favourite flavour.
- Herbal Variations: If you're not using caffeinated tea leaves, you can substitute with herbal teas like chamomile or rooibos (I used Rooibos in the images).
- Iced Version: To make this tea into a refreshing iced version, brew the tea as directed, then cool it down by placing it in the fridge or adding ice cubes. You can also add extra citrus slices and flowers as a garnish.
